Public meeting about the future of the Shuttle Bus
Thank you to everyone who came along to the Shuttle Bus meeting in January. Over 40 people, mostly residents from Church Stretton, joined members of the Shropshire Hills AONB Partnership team to talk about the future of the service
The buses run from Church Stretton at weekends through the summer months, taking passengers onto the Long Mynd and over the Stiperstones.
2022 was a particularly challenging year for the service. In the same year the running costs went up significantly, passenger numbers overall went down and we made a loss of around £9,000.
At the meeting people were able to give their views on a range of topics including, how they use the service, accessibility, ticketing and frequency.
As you might imagine, there was overwhelming support for the Shuttle Buses. No-one wants to lose the service, but it needs to run in a different way to make it financially sustainable.
The feedback was extremely valuable and is helping to shape the future of the service and we will be able to confirm details of the 2023 service in next month’s Stretton Focus.
The Shuttle Buses are a partnership initiative, led by the Shropshire Hills AONB Partnership team and involving Church Stretton Town Council, National Trust, Natural England and Shropshire Council, who have always contributed towards the costs of the service.
