Young Rangers - activities to relieve the lockdown blues

Connecting with nature is one of the best ways to reduce isolation during the pandemic.

Young Rangers offers young people (aged 12-16) the opportunity to discover and conserve the special landscape of the Shropshire Hills AONB.

Whether at home, in your garden, or close to home (as part of permitted daily exercise), here's a few ideas of things that you can do to re-discover your wild side.

  • Wildlife Bingo - scavenging to find seasonal signs on the doorstep.
  • Hello Nestbox - build a birdbox and a feeder. Survey birds at home and at a local wildlife site.
  • Tree Hugger - become an arboreal expert, identify trees in your local area (and plant one in your garden?)
  • My Wildlife Garden - research and plan a mini nature reserve, all of your own
  • Tracks and Signs - investigate signs of life in your neighbourhood, such as footprints and nibbled fruits
  • Flower Power – survey a small patch of wild ground and see how it changes as the seasons progress

To get involved in these activities email Joe, our Young Rangers Project Officer, to find out more and to join our Young Ranger mailing list: joe.penfold@shropshire.gov.uk

Event starts at 12:00am.
