Community action supported by the Conservation Fund
This spring, the Shropshire Hills Landscape Trust has awarded just under £20,000 to 14 local projects. The projects are varied but all deliver practical conservation work and/or educational and awareness-raising activities relating to the Shropshire Hills and its conservation.
The common theme is community action. Whether it's encouraging local parishes monitor and map the spread of pine martens over the Shropshire Hills, recording curlew activity to find nesting sites, learning how to identify some of our rarer plants and fungi, or gaining new skills in lime mortaring. People power has a real impact on the ground, helping to improve or restore habitat for some of our endangered plants and animals, and to make small building repairs at iimportant heritage sites.
Engaging young people is also a strong focus for some of the projects this year. Funding is going to Forest School sessions, creating a woodland work area in a school grounds, and supporting projects to work with young people helping them to use digital media to explore and engage with Shropshire Hills landscape, its wildlife and heritage.
