Pole Cottage Community Excavation and Open Days

This weeks it's the national Festival of Archaeology!

Join us at Pole Cottage to help with excavations to determine where exactly the cottage stood and if there was anything else on the site, perhaps prior to the cottage.

Pole Cottage, a small enclosure in the middle of the Longmynd common, was once home to shepherds, game keepers and excentric bird of pray enthousiasts. The cottage itself has long vanished but volunteers and archaeologists through the Our Upland Commons project have been finding out about this interesting place including a site survey, archival research and are recording a timeline for it.

Field archaeologist, Matt Williams, will guide volunteers on this dig, but booking is essential - please email or phone 07929 726337 if you would like to take part during any or several of the eight days.

Or visit the site during the family friendly public open days on Saturday 16th and Sunday 17th between 11am and 3pm with talks and children’s activities too. Come and share your memories!

Event starts at 12:00am.
