The Shropshire Hills AONB is recognised as one of Britain’s finest landscapes.

The stunning scenery includes the craggy Stiperstones and Wrekin, Wenlock Edge and the Clee Hills, the wide open spaces and hidden valleys of the Long Mynd, and peaceful river valleys such as the Clun and the Onny. There is walking to suit all abilities, across heather and rough hill tops, through meadows and secret woods, with a mewing buzzard overhead often the loudest sound. A rich border heritage with hillforts and castles goes along with towns and villages of great character, a friendly welcome and some fantastic food and festivals.

There are hundreds of miles of public footpaths, bridleways and quiet lanes for you to explore. They lead you across hill tops, along ancient trackways, through river valleys and down sunken lanes. This is a living and working landscape. Centuries of small scale farming has shaped the countryside and its communities.

The bustling market towns, although not far apart, are so different that each will make a lasting impression on you. There are farmers markets and independent shops to browse, museums and galleries to inspire, town trails and tea shops to enjoy.
