The first statutory Management Plan for the Shropshire Hills was formally launched on 12th July 2004.
The plan aims to strengthen active conservation of the area's natural beauty and was influenced by many people with an interest in the future of this special landscape.
The Plan has been written on behalf of the local authorities with responsibility for the AONB and will steer the work of the AONB Partnership and staff team over the next five years.

The AONB Management Plan does not explicitly put forward policies, and this is a significant area which will need to be addressed when the plan is reviewed. In the interim the AONB Partnership is developing and publishing position statements on various issues to help overcome this.
