Blue Remembered Hills Project

Finding ways to make conservation of the Shropshire Hills economically, socially and environmentally viable is fundamental to sustaining the natural beauty of the area for future generations. The project is helping to develop local products and markets that work towards this aim.

What the project has been involved in:

The project has supported the Craven Arms Community Food initiative which in the past twelve months have created a new quarterly farmers market in Craven Arms, run commercial and free (community) farm tours, established a family-focus group, held meetings with local food producers, lobbied the County Council and supported a local school to source more local produce in school meals.

Twelve walking festivals have been supported over the past three years. Bishop's Castle has been so successful that they were approached by a holiday company interested in developing a holiday package that involved the festival.

Postcards have been designed to highlight specific landscape features which have benefited from the project. This year the postcards link in with the two Shropshire Hills Shuttle routes to encourage people to use the Shuttle to ‘visit the view’. Look out for the postcards and why not find the view for yourself.

The Shropshire Hills Shuttles were also supported by BRH this year. The Shuttles provide weekend transport from April to October to rural locations encouraging walking, site seeing and use of services in the countryside. Two of the villages on the route are represented in the postcards this year.
