Blue Remembered Hills Project

Project Evaluation

A thorough review was undertaken in July 2005, which involved the project team and 20 key individuals who have been involved in much of the project over the last two years.

The results of this were extremely positive with project targets exceeded in many cases. The following statistics demonstrate the impact of the project on the ground to date:

· Improvement of habitat for 13 BAP species
· 483ha of wildlife sites now have management plans
· 250 landowners contacted directly regarding conservation management
· Over 6000 new local provenance trees planted
· 300 people trained in 20 different practical conservation management skills
· Volunteers have contributed £11,000 worth of time to surveying veteran trees

Along with this an extra £60,600 of outside funding has been bought into the area for landscape projects as a result of the Down to Earth community groups.

A further review is planned by mid-2008 after the project has completed.
