Blue Remembered Hills Project

Sustainable Access

Picture of the new path and gate at Oak FarmThe project aims to increase physical and intellectual access to the Shropshire Hills.

The project has been able to support an access project at Oak Farm, Ditton Priors, which is a day centre for adults with learning disabilities. The local P3 group (Parish Paths Partnership) identified the project and local contractors undertook the work to create a suitably surfaced foot-path and bridge, which links the day centre with the new tea rooms currently being developed.

A potential new bridle route has been assessed around the Clun Forest which could be promoted to horse riders, cyclists and walkers alike. The route takes in the breathtaking scenery of the area and has been devised to link in with local B&Bs, including horse-friendly B&Bs, pubs and shops.

Interpretation panels for seven sites are currently underway. These are:

· Mahorall Farm, Nash. A walk through farm looking at apple and elder orchards, a beautiful wildlife site where we are due to put Exmoor ponies, woodland and wonderful views.

· Outside The Horseshoes Inn, Bridges, Onny Trail and the Onny Meadows in Craven Arms. Keeping rivers and trees healthy by coppicing.

· Well Meadow and Hogstow Meadow, Stiperstones. Explaining the management of stunning wildflower meadows.

· In the village of Norbury. The yew tree, village, stone walls and Linley Beeches. Interpretation will be linked to the postcard we produced for Norbury.
