Shropshire Hills HAY MEADOW Festival, Sat 7th July

Don’t miss the Shropshire Hills Hay Meadow Festival next Saturday 7th July at the Bog, Pennerley (SY5 0NG). Join us as we celebrate 60 years of the Shropshire Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

We have a packed programme of activities planned. From guided walks and games, storytelling and song, to craft stalls and competitions. Beautiful local crafts, tasty treats and pollinator plants will be on sale.

Try your hand at scything or show your strength in the hay bale lobbing or hayrick building competitions. Experts will be on hand with some top tips for making your garden more wildlife friendly, or will be able to advise on restoring and managing larger areas as traditional hay meadows.

Children will find plenty to do in the ‘hay play’ area, including craft activities, bug hunting and mini-bale making.

Our ‘talk tent’ may attract a more mature audience with 10 minute talk topics, such as ““60 years on, how is one of England’s finest landscapes faring?”.

Soak up the atmosphere with local folk music and storytelling. Refreshments available at the bar, BBQ or ‘make your own’ pizza, and bake it in a cob oven.

Our flower-rich grasslands and roadside verges are some of the most important habitats in the AONB. Stalls and displays will explain how local organisations and community groups are helping to conserve and enhance the Shropshire Hills.

We hope you can join us to celebrate our special landscape, its wealth of wildlife and its active communities.

The Shropshire Hills Hay Meadow Festival is in the field opposite the Bog Visitor Centre, entry £5 (£1 for children) – the charge is to cover Festival costs and any surplus will go into the Shropshire Hills AONB Conservation Fund, which supports local projects.

Car parking at the Bog Mine car park (SY5 0NG). Refreshments available at the Bog Visitor Centre as well as at the Festival.
