Individuals and Parish & Town Council members invited to join the AONB Partnership
Do you care about the landscape of the Shropshire Hills?
Do you have time and skills to contribute?
The Shropshire Hills AONB is one of 46 Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty in the UK, designated for their national landscape value. The AONB extends from the Stiperstones to the Clee Hills and from the Wrekin to the Clun Forest, covering 23% of Shropshire and a small part of Telford & Wrekin.
The Shropshire Hills AONB Partnership is a joint advisory committee established by the two local authorities to fulfil the purposes of the AONB designation. These are principally to conserve and enhance natural beauty, but also to take account of the needs of agriculture, forestry and other rural industries and of the economic and social needs of local communities, to promote sustainable forms of social and economic development, and to meet the demand for recreation. The Partnership consists of up to 43 members and meets three times a year, to oversee implementation of the statutory AONB Management Plan and to advise on major issues affecting the area. The Partnership also has a delegated Transition Board to lead on overseeing the Team’s work and develop new governance arrangements, and a number of area or topic groups.
Applications for membership of the AONB Partnership are now invited from individuals, and from members of Parish and Town Councils coming into the AONB, as part of a biennial review. Applicants in all categories must demonstrate an interest related to the purposes of the AONB and a willingness to participate constructively in its management. Membership is unpaid but in certain circumstances members may be able to claim reasonable expenses.
