George Chancellor, Chair and individual member of the AONB Partnership, introduces the Review:

“Everyone involved in the Shropshire Hills should be hugely proud of the scale of the past year’s AONB achievements, and the more than 800% return on local investment they represent. All the more so for the fact that they’ve been realised in the face of greater enforced change than ever. While retaining our excellent relationship with Natural England, our Partnership has adjusted well to direct Defra funding arrangements, to substantial cuts in core funding and to uncertainty over LEADER budgets. At the same time, we’ve been able to add a host of valuable new farming, tourism and local area projects to our existing programme.

Against the background of acute local government pressures, the continuing commitment of our host authority, Shropshire Council is tremendous. With it and the unstinting efforts of our dedicated staff team, Partnership members and Friends, we look forward to achieving even more for one of the UK’s most beautiful landscapes in the years ahead.”
